I agree about isolating onsite premises first. Also, by having multiple locations it means that if one is compromised, it's easy to scrub the server and start again without loss of data. Ransomware - if it's just data storage, I would run a Linux server with a Samba share, also most VPS providers will include some form protection against malware and DDoS. I do remember the 2e2 fiasco, and thankfully that is an extremely rare situation! If you use 2 offsite locations you should ensure that neither is dependent on the other. ![]() As only a few people can/should access it, let them begin the process of isolating the data to a separate location first. I would start with isolating the data on-prem first. You also have to worry about randsomware attacking your backups. Being in the UK he may well remember the 2e2 debacle a few years ago (hosting provider went bust, the receivers send a mail to all customers telling them to stump up money or the service would shut down at the end of the week.). ![]() I reckon Nelson there covered all the points.
